I Saw God Today

by Margaret Bartlett

Men may say, “Show me God,
That I may know he lives.
How else can I believe
The eternal life he gives?
“Why, if they only knew
They see him every day.
Let me tell you how I know-
I saw God today!
I saw him on my lawn,
When the Robin came to announce the Spring.
I saw him in the sky,
As a beautiful Dove took wing.
I saw him in the shining sun
That made the flowers bloom,
I saw him in the cloudless day
That chased away the gloom.
I saw him in the field
Where the lovely lilies grow,
I saw him in the yellow wheat
That was waving to and fro.
I saw him in a giant wave
That rushed to meet the sand
I saw him in the huge White Oak
That shaded the sun warmed land.
I saw him in the rainbow
That followed behind the rain,
I saw him in the meadow
Carpeted with growing grain.
I saw him in the princely eagle
Soaring above the hills,
I saw him again in my yard
In the golden Daffodils.
I saw him in the dewy grass
Dampened by a shower,
I saw him in a Honey Bee
Over a tiny flower.
I saw him in a sunset
As darkness was drawing nigh,
I saw him in a million stars
That sparkled in the sky.
If you’ll only look around you,
Tomorrow you too can say,
“I know he lives because
I saw God today!”
