The Diamante Poem is a contrasting poem using 7 lines arranged in a diamond pattern. The lines contrast and form meaning as follows:

Line 1: one word subject (noun)
Line 2: two adjectives describing noun in Line 1
Line 3: three verbs (action words ending in -ing or -ed) to describe noun in Line 1
Line 4: four nouns – two related to each in Lines 1 & 7 (may be arranged concurrently or alternately)
Line 5: three verbs (action words ending in -ing or -ed) to describe noun in Line 7
Line 6: two adjectives describing noun in Line 7
Line 7: one noun growing out of or opposite to noun in Line 1
