With Brown Eyes Pleading

with brown eyes tenderly pleading
I look up to the stars
to see where you are
but you are not to be found

I look to the sky, wondering why
you’ve affected my world in such a way
as to question all things that exist
and to see it all as a play

in the grand scheme of things unseen
I do have a place, or so it seems
my seeming forgetfulness
of all that exists is but a dream

So now the quest becomes
to find that place – that existence
to which my heart belongs

with brown eyes tenderly pleading
I pray only to belong
in the unseen grand scheme of things
I wish to wake from the dream
of this seeming non-reality
