At the Top of this Tree

Serenity, basking in the embrace
of my favorite sycamore tree
I feel hugged, loved and free
high atop this tree, just god and me
leaving my painful world behind
From up here I can see
beyond horizons, beyond limitations
beyond pain
Up here I can see
Down there, I am not this free
but here I am, at the top of this tree
feeling free, just god and me

Written as a “Shape” poem, where the words take the shape of the poems subject:

serenity,
basking in the embrace
of my favorite sycamore tree
I feel hugged, loved and free
high atop this tree, just god and me
leaving my painful world behind, from up here
I can see beyond horizons, beyond limitations
beyond pain, up here I can see, down there
I am not this free but here I am
at the top of this tree
feeling free
just
God
and
me
